ECOWAS Common External Tariff Adopted by Heads of State
January 2006

The ECOWAS Heads of State approved the implementation plan for adoption of the ECOWAS Common External Tariff, more than 30 years after creation of the regional body. AIRD played a key role in bringing the 15 West African countries together, outlining critical choices, and coaxing them to agreement. Work on the final duty rates for the most contentious products (the Type B exceptions) will continue during 2006.
