West Africa Power Pool (WAPP) Cooperative Agreement
AIRD provided institutional support to the development of the West African Power Pool (WAPP) in order to permit regional trading of electricity. The AIRD team, including Purdue University, provided analytical and logistical support to the ECOWAS Secretariat as it organized activities related to closer regional economic integration in the electricity sector. AIRD has contributed to the adoption of the ECOWAS Energy Protocol, an annex to the revised ECOWAS Treaty. Purdue University contributed to the transfer of modeling technology and know-how to the region. The WAPP program was supported by USAID's West Africa Regional Program. (2002-2004)
